Ms. Deepti Gurung is a single mother who left her former job as a tourism marketing director when her daughters were denied citizenship in her name. She eventually turned into a committed activist and has been fighting equal citizenship rights in Nepal to allow single-mothers to pass on citizenship rights to their children. She was successful in getting the Supreme Court to allow her daughters to confer citizenship in her name as well as acquire citizenship for her husband, his brother and nephew through their mother. She started her campaign through a Facebook page “Citizenship in the Name of Mother”. She has successfully helped many children acquire citizenship through her individual support. In 2021 Citizenship Affected People’s Network (CAPN) was registered officially and has expanded its work in the field.Currently,She is in the position of Executive Director of CAPN.
