the Citizenship Affected People’s Network (CAPN) conducted a Sahayatri-led School Outreach Program at Cresent City School in Dhangadhi, engaging 70 Grade 7 students in discussions on birth registration, citizenship, legal identity, and gender-equal citizenship rights. The program aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of the importance of legal documentation, the challenges individuals may face in its absence, and the role of gender equality in ensuring access to citizenship and legal identity.
Led by Sahayatri Sajit Hassan, the program employed interactive activities, animation videos, group discussions, and practical exercises to make complex legal and social issues accessible to students. Through these activities, students explored the significance of birth registration and citizenship, discussed barriers to obtaining legal documentation, and reflected on possible community-level solutions. The sessions encouraged students to engage critically with issues of identity, discrimination, and equal access to rights and state services.
The outreach marked an important milestone for CAPN as its first Sahayatri-led community outreach initiative in Nepal’s western region. It also demonstrated the value of community-led advocacy that places the lived experiences of citizenship-affected individuals at its centre. By enabling Sahayatri to lead awareness initiatives within their own communities, CAPN seeks to strengthen grassroots advocacy, expand public understanding of legal identity, and promote gender-equal citizenship rights across Nepal.
