CAPN, in partnership with Lalitpur Metropolitan City, organized a two-day workshop on “The Role of Local Government in Citizenship Acquisition” on 19–20 Jestha 2083 (2–3 June 2026). The workshop convened ward members and ward secretaries from all 29 wards of Lalitpur Metropolitan City to strengthen understanding of citizenship and civil registration laws, procedures, and implementation challenges. Sessions covered constitutional and legal provisions, international standards, and the experiences of citizenship-affected individuals, highlighting the critical role of local governments in facilitating access to citizenship and related documentation.

The workshop also created space for participants to discuss real-life cases and administrative challenges encountered at the ward level, including birth registration, citizenship recommendations, and relationship verification processes. Ms. Manjalee Shakya Bajracharya, Deputy Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, addressed the participants and underscored the importance of ensuring accessible and responsive public services for all citizens. The program concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration, improve procedural understanding, and promote more effective service delivery for individuals seeking citizenship and civil registration documents.
