CAPN participated in the World Conference on Statelessness (WCS) held from February 26 to 29, 2024, in Malaysia, making a significant mark by raising visibility on Nepal’s citizenship issues and the lived experiences of impacted individuals. CAPN was involved as a panelist and contributor in several key sessions, including: Workshop: Engaging with People with Lived Experience of Statelessness
Launch and Town Hall of the Global Movement Against Statelessness
Panel: Mobilizing to End Gender Discriminatory Nationality Laws
Panel: Education for Stateless Children and Educating Children About Statelessness
Workshop: Risk and Safety for Stateless Activists
In addition to these sessions, CAPN’s Director, Ms. Neha Gurung, wrote and contributed a play based on her family’s real-life experience with Nepal’s citizenship laws. Developed as part of the Stateless Action Group’s storytelling program, the play was performed as an advocacy effort for Nepal’s gender equal nationality laws. . CAPN also hosted a dedicated booth at the conference, showcasing and selling handmade earrings and handkerchiefs crafted by our impacted members under the Safe Haven Initiative. Through our active engagement in the conference, CAPN contributed to global conversations on citizenship, while amplifying the voices and stories of those most affected in Nepal.
