UNHCR Nepal organised a felicitation program on 31st January, 2025 to celebrate and honour CAPN’s Executive Director, Ms. Deepti Gurung as she received the prestigious UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award, Asia Pacific 2024.
The UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award was established in 1954 to honour individuals, groups and organizations who have taken extraordinary action to protect refugees as well as internally displaced and stateless people.
During the program, Ms. Gurung shared her journey of advocating for gender-equal nationality rights in Nepal, emphasised on its urgent need and expressed gratitude to the UNHCR team for the recognition in her speech. The felicitation program was followed by a panel discussion on “Legal Identity in Nepal: Challenges and Opportunities.” Ms. Deepti Gurung was one of the panelists alongside Ms. Mohana Ansari, Mr. Dipendra Jha, Mr. Milan Dharel moderated by Ms. Sushma Gautam. Ms. Gurung through CAPN remains dedicated to amplifying the need for gender-equal citizenship, ensuring that conversations around nationality rights are included in every platform, space, and dialogue we engage in.
